Oral health awareness month: How to pay extra attention to your oral hygiene
This month isn’t just the start of Spring, it’s also National Oral Health Month. This is the perfect time to pay extra attention to your oral hygiene. Did you know that two of the world’s most common health problems are cavities and gum disease? I can believe that! Gum disease ranks second only to the common cold in terms of prevalence.
With an estimated 90% of South Africans experiencing the problem at some point. While there is no substitute for regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings. A great oral health routine at home can really help keep teeth and gums clean and healthy in-between visits and even reverse gingivitis. I’m terrified of the dentist and so I try avoid going, at all costs. I do that by taking care of my teeth as best I can.
Three products to consider this oral health month:
Unlike dental floss, the Waterpik® water flosser (from R999.00) is a more effective way to improve your oral health and enjoy the cleanest, freshest mouth possible. Using a Waterpik® Water Flosser is clinically proven to remove up to 99.9% of plaque from treated areas along the gum line and between teeth and to prevent, reduce, or reverse gingivitis and tooth decay. Waterpik® Water Flossers are available from Dis-Chem and selected dentists, as well as online from www.waterpikflosser.co.za and www.takealot.com.
Personal opinion: I’ve used the Waterpik®. I have super sensitive teeth. So, I use room temperature water in my device as cold water stings a little. After I use the Waterpik® my teeth feel extra clean, like I’ve had a professional clean. Personally I suffer from build-up behind my teeth, so I get a professional clean regularly. Since using the Waterpik® I don’t need to go for professional cleans every 3 months. I only got every 6 months now.
Philips Sonicare BreathRx
Bad breath is caused by bacteria and their waste products which collect in the mouth. By adding the BreathRx range to your daily routine, up to 99% of bacteria can be eliminated. Using mouthwash in combination with your regular brushing helps to control the bacteria in difficult to reach areas. Such as between your teeth, on the tongue, back of the tongue, the throat area, and in the pockets around the teeth. BreathRx Whitening Toothpaste (R199.00) combines the benefits of fluoride, tartar control, and enhanced stain removal with the malodor protection of Zytex to eliminate odour-causing plaque and debris from the teeth and gums. Perfect for traveling, the BreathRx Starter Kit (R425.00) contains a tongue spray, 2 x tongue cleaners, a mouthwash (237ml), and toothpaste 112g.
Personal opinion: I haven’t used this specific breath kit. However, I do use a tongue cleaner and mouthwash, along with brushing twice daily and using my Waterpik® daily.
Offering a wide range of in chair and at-home products. Philips Zoom Whitening provides a professional, safe, and effective solution to stained teeth. Leaving you with a bright white, and confident smile.
