O.M.G is that the new ghd?

I remember being in grade 7 (what an awkward phase), Avril Lavigne was all the rage and all the girls (including me), wanted dead straight hair like hers. We tried ironing our hair, with a literal iron and brown paper, we tried everything the magazines told us to do and then we were introduced to ghd.

Every teenage girl added this accessory to their birthday/Christmas wish-lists every year.  I had my eye on a limited edition black and gold ghd set, with a travel hairdryer, gold mirror, and ghd hair parting clips, all in a gorgeous bag of-course. My parents couldn’t afford such luxuries at this time and so I started doing promo’s on the weekends to save up for it (promos are a whole other blog post on their own).

After a few months of hardcore saving, I was finally able to spoil myself with the ghd of my dreams. I read all of the instructions, I looked after her with such love and care and in return, she looked after me. I kept her all throughout high school, only replacing her in university when a then-boyfriend bought me a new one. My ghd while faded, was still in tip-top working condition.

There’s something about ghd, whether you purchase one for yourself or receive it as a gift, that literally makes you jump for joy. To date that’s still one of the best gifts, I have ever received. My university relationship ended, but my ghd and love for the brand lasted.

Wish upon a star

This year, ghd launched their ‘wish upon a star’ collection and it’s everything. It’s lust-worthy, it’s Instagram-worthy, it really is the perfect gift for any beauty lover in your life. This collection was inspired by the constellation and features hues of midnight blue, iridescent white, with gold accents. It’s just dreamy! I was looking for a new ghd, and while I was weighing up the costs, the iridescent white with gold accents won me over #TakeAllMyMoney

This new collection offers four luxe-gift options:

  • ghd limited edition deluxe gift set:

This is the super fancy, creme-de-la-creme ultra-dream set that features the limited edition, celestial-inspired white coated, platinum+ styler, as well as the new ghd Helios hairdryer with satin gold accents. Both of which come in a chic midnight blue vanity case. This limited edition gift set really is the crowning glory of Christmas gifting.  R5600.

  • ghd Platinum+ Styler Gift Set:

Wish upon a star and watch your Christmas dreams come true with this sparkling new styler, it is so pretty to look at and it contains monitors heat at 250x a second to maintain an optimum styling temperature of 185’C across the styling plates, to give you beautiful results in just one stroke. Responding to the styling speed and thickness of your hair, this styler tailors the power to your needs to deliver a super sleek, high-shine finish, without compromising the health of your hair. This set also comes in a magnificent midnight blue vanity. R3400

  • ghd gold styler set:

Accessorise your holiday look with this gorgeous styler queen! This is the set that I have, the iconic ghd gold styler that has the dual-zone technology to offer a super smooth finish from root to tip. With two next-generation heat sensors across each styling plate to provide even and consistent 185’c degrees temperature across the plates to empower you with smoother, healthier-looking hair. The round barrel also provides snag-free styling. R2800

  • ghd Helios Professional Hairdryer :

This professional hairdryer is perfect for those who blow-dry their hair often. Featuring Aeroprecis technology that delivers 30% more shine and 3x more hair alignment, this hairdryer drastically reduces styling time and delivers salon-quality results. The Helios comes in a midnight blue duster bag. R2900

My opinion:

I’ve been using the ghd gold styler for a few weeks now and I must say, I am so happy! I love the way the styler looks, handles, and how it makes my hair look. I use it to both straighten and create curls and volume in my hair and I simply adore it. Don’t just trust my option, try it out for yourself and see.
