Everyone had their eyebrows micro-bladed in 2017, now in 2023 everyone is sticking hundreds of needles into their face in the search to try look 21 again. I know I have! I was invited by Grace Skin and Wellness in Parkmore to come through to try a micro needling session.
Micro needling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a minimally invasive treatment used to rejuvenate the skin. This is what my experience was like. First, we cleansed the skin and then a numbing cream was applied on my face, neck and chest. Clingwrap was put on my face to accelerate the process, so the numbing cream can work quicker. If you’re claustrophobic, then they won’t put clingwrap on your face. While waiting for the numbing cream to activate I was treated to an amazing head massage.

Once you’re nice and numb a device with fine needles creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, which triggers the body to create new collagen and elastin. The forehead is uncomfortable as there’s a bit of bone there, but the rest of my face, neck and chest was fine. I did have tiny blood spots, but not many. I must be honest; Grace Skin and Wellness use a great numbing cream. I have a very low pain threshold and I really didn’t feel any discomfort or pain.
The process took about 1,5 hours but luckily, I had a beautiful flower wallpaper ceiling to look at, and I kid you not, I even had a little nap.

I was red when we were done, and my skin felt a little flushed, but there was no discomfort. Micro needling is used to improve texture and firmness in the skin, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks. The treatment you want done and the results you expect will influence how deep the therapist goes with the needle. I wanted a healthy glow, so we didn’t go too deep. It’s recommended you go for 3-4 treatments to see the best results.

Micro needling may also be combined with a topical treatment, like PRP (platelet rich plasma) or another vitamin-rich serum. Later, that evening I had a healthy glow develop already. The day after my micro needling my skin looked a little flushed and it felt like I had wind burn on my face. I started using the barrier cream and that helped a lot. Within 3 days the redness went down, my skin peeled a bit and I had a happy, healthy glow. I would go back for another treatment. I felt comfortable walking around without makeup on because I had a great glow, and a nice pink colour in my cheeky from the micro needling. The therapist I saw, Lisa, recommended I come every second month for a treatment until I’ve done 3 – 4 treatments, that’s when you’ll start seeing great results.

I’ve tried this treatment and I would recommend you try it too. You wont regret it! So, go on, stick those needles in your face in the pursuit of youth. You’ll love it!
