Open Air Johannesburg, in celebration of Air Max Day 2022

The air over Braamfontein was alive with energy, sparked by creative minds and trailblazers last weekend. As Nike celebrated its annual Air Max Day. Archive played host to young visionary talent and industry pioneers for the Iconic annual Nike Open Air Day event.

 

In addition to releasing a couple of new Nike Air Max styles you can get hyped about, the iconic sneaker brand launched an action-packed day with creative workshops, inspirational panels, and special guest appearances by visionary artists such as Githian Coopoo, Natalie PNG, Sandile Mhlongo, Sibot, Talia Ramkilawan, Tammi Mbambo, and Xopher Wallace.

 

Archive invited aspiring artists to share their unique vision of the future of Nike Air. The entrants did not disappoint. Tavongaishe Chikwanda was announced as the winner of the Nike Open Air Art Prize – R100 000 toward their creative career. For Tavongaishe Chikwanda, the sky is now the limit as they take their career to the next level, courtesy of the Air Max.

 

What began as a revolutionary performance mechanism designed for athletes has become a household name and an iconic symbol of street style and culture. At this revolutionary event, it was clear that the legend of the Air Max continues to soar in Mzansi.
