Review: Kream Restaurant, Monte Casino

Kream isn’t just a modern restaurant designed for signing deals, it’s a restaurant designed for celebrating big life events and enjoying a glass of bubbles with the girls. Their meals are simple, yet made from the most magnificent cuts of meat, using the finest and freshest ingredients. Their servers are warm, knowledgable and run that establishment like a well-oiled machine. This restaurant has a luxurious, modern feel, so get dressed up, take some pics and enjoy yourself babes. Set aside a couple of hours for the experience, this isn’t a one-hour dinner affair.

Starters:

We enjoyed a hearty and homey mushroom & biltong soup (R75). It was so good, had loads of mushroom and biltong pieces in it and it was big enough to be eaten as a main. The perfect hearty starter for these cooler, Autumn nights.

Next up was the seared tuna special (R109), which was marinated in a teriyaki sauce. This dish was unbelievably fresh and delicious. We would highly recommend it. They did however mention this was only a special and not a regular menu offering. We would definitely go back again just for this. One of the best starters we’ve had in a long time.

We also treated ourselves to oysters wrapped in smoked salmon, and cream cheese, which were finished off with a fresh salsa (R40 each). It was so unreal. Unbelievably fresh and full of flavour. Then we were given a complimentary mango sorbet as a palate cleanser. This was fresh and oh so yummy!

Mains:

For mains, we treated ourselves to the fillet Camembert (R249), which we loved. While we could’ve done without the sweet cranberry jus, it was still a memorable dish. Not mixing the savoury and sweet is also just a personal preference. The next main was the springbok shank (R220) on a bed of gnocchi and seasonal veggies. The food was a 10/10 rating, but it was far too much. The portions are huge so you’ll definitely enjoy takeaways for lunch the next day. Big generous portions, packed with flavour. Both of these dishes were also quite rich.

Dessert:

We finished off the evening on a sweet note, with a salted caramel cheesecake (R85) it was so good. One of the best we’ve had in a long time, which was surprising considering Kream isn’t a bakery. We should’ve taken another two of these to go. Best meal we’ve had in a long time. I cannot recommend this experience enough.
