Who is Tamryn Sher-Geldenhuys?
Tamryn Sher is a 32-year-old, career orientated individual. Originally from Durban, she moved to Joburg when she was 13, when her parents got divorced. Tamryn is the oldest of three girls. She has her honours in marketing management, through the prestigious IMM Graduate School of marketing, she currently works in public relations, where she has 12 years of experience, she runs an award-winning website and she’s just launched Menage Magazine.
Tamryn finds that she’s better suited to the Jozi hustle and bustle, rather than the slower pace at the coast. She doesn’t know how to do things slowly, which is why she recently, started a new job, moved house, and got married, all within a three-week period. She then threw herself into launching Menage Magazine, which is now launching six weeks later.
What are your passion points?
Tamryn’s passion points are centred around career, beauty, and female empowerment. Her career, and more importantly, her financial independence has always been a priority for her. At the end of the day, money gives you freedom, comfort and for me, a degree of happiness.’’ I’m not saying it’s right, but I place some of my self-worth/self-value in how much money I earn.’’ Says Sher. Becoming wealthy, and comfortable is a priority for her, which is why she makes so many sacrifices and juggles so many different ventures at the same time.
Beauty is a passion point, as it’s how she unwinds. The better you look, the better you feel and the better you perform at work. Something as simple has a hot bubble bath, a hydrating sheet mask, or a fresh spray tan can give you the mindset re-start that you may have been craving.
Female empowerment is another passion point, especially in a country like SA, where GBV is a tough reality and doesn’t look like it’s slowing down, any time soon. Empowerment for her is education, awareness, and action. Understanding that there are different forms of GBV, such as financial GBV, so educating women to have their own source of income no matter how small, is vital. Sexual health is another form of female empowerment. Women are sexualised and owning that sexuality instead of being afraid of it, can only empower you and your mindset.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Within the next 5 years, I hope we are living in a post-pandemic time. Sher hopes within the next 5 years to finally break into the corporate marketing space, as either a marketing or brand manager.
She hopes to still be happily married and have started a family by then, while still running a successful website and magazine, with a team of writers working with her. She hopes to have travelled more, made a million more memories, and added a few more million to her bank account.
What’s it like being married to a doctor?
Being married to someone who is intelligent and educated is inspiring and it’s what I always wanted. It forces you to level up in every aspect of your life. You want to be better mentally, emotionally, financially, and spiritually. She’s still working on wanting to be better physically – lol.
Seeing your spouse be so passionate about what they do makes you want to go out and do the same. He works long hours, which allows Sher to focus on her website and magazine – so it’s all about what you make of the time that you have. You can either be miserable and bored that you spend a lot of time alone, or you can monetise that time, for your self-worth, your mind, your ego, and your future.
Right now, it’s difficult, as her hubby lives 2.5h away, so they’re doing long distance in their first year of marriage. However, absence makes the heart grow fonder, so they just make sure they’re intentional with the time that they do spend together. However, she’s still praying that the Department of Health gives her hubby a post closer to home, so that he can come home earlier than the one-year contract he currently has.
How do you unwind?
Sher wishes she could say that she unwinds by cooking, cleaning, or exercising, but no. She enjoys watching true crime series, she finds the minds of serial killers fascinating. Her creative writing is a great outlet for harboured emotions and some beauty treatments such as a luxe massage, a rubber base mani, or a hydrating facial go a long way.
For something simpler, she enjoys hot, candle lit bubble bath, with all the beautifully fragranced trimmings, enjoying a delicious meal that she hasn’t cooked, or watching a new series is how she relaxes and unwinds.
