I absolutely love being golden bronzed, it makes me look and feel more confident. I feel like I look better, I even feel like I look skinnier. My cellulite is also less noticeable when I’m bronzed and my skin has a gorgeous, natural glow to it. Having said that, I am not a fan of baking in the sun. I am super pale (like transparent) which means that I burn easily, and get pigmentation spots quickly too. That’s why I prefer spray tans. All the glow, with none of the skin damage.

I have tried many spray tan salons over the years. Most have been fine, a few have been disasters, but my salon of choice is Glow Couture Fourways. Jenny is the owner and her positive personality, and welcoming aura are absolutely infectious. She makes you feel really comfortable, right from the get-go, and she only uses the very best products in the business. Her tanning solutions range from an ultra natural sun-kissed glow, to a ‘I’ve just returned from a holiday in Mykonos’ deep bronzed brown. That colour deepens as it stays on and then you wash it off after a certain time period – as prescribed by the master tanner herself. Jenny has a range of express tans that can be washed off after 2-3h, to others that can be left on overnight. The lightly-scented talc powder she applies to your skin post tan ensures you never feel sticky or uncomfortable. In the two years I’ve been going to Jenny, I’ve never once left streaky or feeling unsatisfied with my look. Not even once.

As a consumer who has been a client of tanning solutions, all over the city of gold, for over 15 years now, I can confidently say that in my opinion, Glow Couture Fourways is the best tanning salon in Johannesburg. After every visit to the salon, I receive compliments. From how gorgeous my skin looks due to the dewy glow, to the beautiful, natural colour.

This was a very natural looking express (2h until you wash off tan) that I got before going out to dinner with the fiancé.

About Glow Couture

Glow Couture is a boutique salon that offers a custom experience, based on the look you’re aiming to achieve. Jenny doesn’t just do spray tans – she also sells a range of boutique goodies such as sexy cozzies, humidifiers, lip balms, masks, evil eye merchandise, and spray tan mousse, mitts and body scrub for that at home, pre-tan prep. The tanning booths are immaculate, and do not have that spray tan scent that sometimes lingers around tanning salons. Jen provides you with sexy disposable underwear and a hairnet for your convenience. However, you are welcome to use your own. She has been practicing the strictest hygiene measures, even before we knew what COVID-19 was, so you always feel safe. She only sees one person at a time – so social distancing practices are strictly adhered too.

Tanning tips

The day before your tan: Shave and exfoliate so that your tan can last even longer 😊 The prep work is NB if you want your tan to last long and look flawless.

The day of your tan: Come makeup free, do not apply deodorant, moisturiser, or perfume before your appointment.

The day after your tan: Shower, rather than bath, pat down the skin with a towel, don’t rub it, and apply moisturiser daily to keep your tan lasting longer.

You can find Glow Couture in Broadacres Shopping Center. Just walk through the Mugg & Bean. It is very quick and convenient to order a cappuccino and pick it up on your way out. Glow Couture is close to the parking entrance of the center, so you only have to walk a few steps to your car which is convenient. There’s also free parking in the center.
