Your questions answered

Hey guys,

I gave you an opportunity to ask me anything and you did.

Here are your top 10 questions, answered:

  1. What do you do for a living?

I work in public relations, I’m an account director at a global agency and lead a fantastic team of women who are all experts in their field. We write strategy and change the way people perceive brands, come up with creative concepts and work closely with sister companies who do social media management, and influencer strategy and management. March 2020, marked my 10th year working in this industry.

  1. What time do you go to bed?

Usually around 11 pm. I’m a night owl, but I really am hoping to be better and to start going to bed around 10-10:30 pm.

  1. How long after you found out you had gallstones, did you have surgery?

Once I found out I had gallstones, I had to come back a week later to test my liver enzymes as they were raised from the strain of me passing a stone. They needed to check that my enzymes were normal to rule out a blockage/infection from a stone getting stuck in a duct. Once that test was positive, I was booked in for surgery a week later.

  1. What free courses do you recommend people take?

It depends on what you do for a living, but LinkedIn offers some great, free learning courses. Facebook offers Facebook blueprint – free social media training and udemy also offers a few free social media courses. If these courses do not cover your field, do a quick google search to find some free courses that would appeal to you.

  1. How do you get your brows to look like that?

I’ve had my brows micro-bladed by Catherine Blankfield who owns mani.cure salon. I get my brows tinted in henna every 6 weeks by Ashleigh at lashes-at-h-art and I use eyeshadow to fill in my brows in-between appointments and for a more dramatic, fuller look.

  1. Where was your best international holiday?

At 31 years old, I’m lucky enough to have traveled to Bali, Greece, Israel, Croatia, Turkey, London, Amsterdam, and Paris. Each holiday has been a different experience and has had a different effect on me as an individual.

Bali:

Bali was after a 7 year break up, it was a period of self-discovery, it was my first international holiday. I loved the lazy days by the hotel pool, exploring the night markets, the massages and my absolute favourite, the colourful sunsets. I would love to go back.

Greece and Israel:

Greece was a holiday I did with a girlfriend where we just partied and had fun, while experiencing local culture and cuisine. Nammos Mykonos was a must and the acropolis was simply beautiful.  I would go back again for a more cultural experience. Israel was to see my roots, it was beautiful, it felt like home. I loved the food, beaches, and shopping, but I was scared of the terrorist attacks that happen there. I would go back but not in a hurry.

Croatia:

Croatia was so beautiful, I loved the landscape, the people, and the little islands. This was my first holiday where we were traveled on a sailboat. We partied in a cave, had lunch and some wine tasting in a lavender field, and saw the most amazing parks and beaches, I would do this holiday again!

Turkey:

Turkey – this is where I got engaged so it’s obviously a favourite for me. I loved the Turkish bath experience, the shopping and local cultures in Istanbul, the rich heritage, the food, and of course the apple tea and Turkish delight. Antalya had great food and beaches but was a little touristy for me. The history of the old cities was breathtaking and Cappadocia was a dream come true. I would go back again in a heartbeat.

London:

London, I really loved this city and could actually see myself living here. I loved the history, the culture, the scenery, and the Instagram cafes. I didn’t mind the weather and I enjoyed the public transport, although I didn’t really know how it worked. I’ll never be running for those trains again yoh! It was just super expensive.

Amsterdam:

Amsterdam was cool, I enjoyed the history, the heritage, the nightlife, shopping, the picturesque canal views, it was lovely. I loved this holiday, but I wouldn’t rush back again.

Paris:

Paris was fun! It was super expensive, but my highlights were Disney world, the Versace mansion, and the walking tours. The food was great, the wine was lovely, the nightlife was good. I didn’t love the public transport here, it didn’t feel very safe to me at times and it was very expensive. I would go back though

  1. Where did you meet your husband?

I don’t have a husband, only a fiancé. We met on Facebook at first, we spoke on the phone for about 2 months first, and then we had our first date at Tasha’s Nicolway.

  1. What did you study?

I studied marketing. I did a diploma in marketing, a diploma in business management, a degree in marketing, and then my honours in marketing.

  1. What do you use on your skin?

I must be honest, I am not loyal to a skincare brand. As a lifestyle blogger, I am often sent skincare ranges to review. What I can say that I really enjoy are:

  • Dermastine, I am currently trialing this range as part of a paid partnership and I must be honest, I’m really enjoying it. I’m using their foaming cleanser, micellar water, and moisturizer. This is one of the few moisturisers that works really well for my dry skin. It’s also affordable.
  • I’ve tried the L’OCCITANE aqua range – I loved the cleanser and toner and the get moisturizer. It was more affordable than you would think it is.
  • Dermalogica, I enjoyed their daily cleanser, micro-exfoliating powder, and their daily moisturizer, their eye cream is also great. These products last long but they are quite expensive to outlay upfront.
  • Nivea, I really enjoyed their Q10 Power anti-wrinkle range, including the boost pearl serum, it’s also an affordable range.
  • When it comes to serums, treatments, and masks, I use BABOR ampoules, Elizabeth Arden ceramide capsules, SVR foaming exfoliator, and skin republic collagen masks.

  1. Why did you stop freelancing?

After 1.5y of freelancing, my biggest client offered me a permanent role and I was ready to go back to working full time again. It’s all about the timing. Starting a full-time job was also a blessing in disguise as I’m sure my business would’ve suffered during the lockdown.
