Get to know celebrity stylist, David Gillson

It’s a Sher thing grabbed a quick coffee with celebrity stylist David Gillson to find out more about who he is, where he is from, and where his creative genius comes from.

Where did you grow up David?

I grew up in a small town called eshowe, in Zululand. For those of you who aren’t familiar with eshowe, the area is well known for its steel farming, brewery, forests, and beaches. It’s safe to say that Gillson is a small-town boy and I think all the fresh air, organic veg, and craft markets only helped add to his creativity.

You hosted the most unreal, Saturday night ‘themed’ parties during the lockdown, which we all came to love and look forward too. Tell us more about them

He starts laughing as I ask this question. The Gillsons started this fun night in as something to look forward too for their daughter. It’s really just a fun night with dress up, good food, and themed cocktails. David is an ‘A-type’ personality and he, therefore, likes to keep himself busy, so the planning, cooking, and outfit coordination helped him do just that. Will these nights ‘in’ continue? Watch this space…. maybe in the next school holidays.

What 3 brands/products will we always find in your bathroom?

Firstly, David explains that he absolutely LOVES serums, other than that we can expect to find….

  1. Comme des garson fragrances (yes, I did have to ask him to spell that for me).
  2. Any cleanser/serum with alpha hydroxy acid in it
  3. Dr. Teals epsom salts and body wash in lavender

David’s Davines love of the week

Davines energising shampoo

This stimulating and regenerating shampoo will gently cleanse the hair and give it an energising sensation. This shampoo is perfect for the wellbeing of the scalp, and fragile hair that is prone to falling out. This shampoo gives a balancing effect to the scalp and adds some much-needed moisture to the hair. It smells like peppermint and has a cool, fresh feeling on your scalp after you’ve used it. It smells gorgeous, it lathers beautifully and your hair definitely feels clean after you’ve used it. I see why they put a dragon on the bottle. The retail price is R345 for 250ml
