While I love being bronzed, it makes me look and feel better about myself and more confident. I’m not a fan of baking in the sun. I’m super pale which means that I burn easily and get pigmentation spots quickly too, which is why I prefer spray tans.

My spray tan salon of choice is Glow Couture Fourways, Jenny is the owner and her positive personality is absolutely infectious. She makes you feel really comfortable and she only uses the best products in the business. Her tanning solutions range from a natural sun-kissed glow, to a ‘I’ve just returned from Mykonos’ deep bronzed brown. The powder she applies post tan ensures you never feel sticky or uncomfortable and I’ve never once left streaky or feeling unsatisfied with my look.

As someone who has been frequenting tanning solutions for over 10 years now, I can confidently say that in my opinion, Glow Couture Fourways is the best tanning salon in Johannesburg. After every visit to the salon I receive compliments on how gorgeous my skin looks from the glow to the colour – both in person and online. For those of you who know me, you’ll know that I’m pretty much translucent I’m so pale.

As I am so pale, my spray tans can very quickly look unnatural and orange if not applied correctly. That balance is a very thin line and not many salons have gotten this combo right before. Glow Couture is a boutique salon that offers a personalised experience, the colour scheme is neutral earthy tones and Jen doesn’t just do spray tans – she also sells a range of other goodies such as sexy cozzies, humidifiers and spray tan mousse for those touch-ups at home/ while you’re on holiday.

The tanning booths are immaculately clean, with no sticky-orange residue anywhere to be seen. Jen provides you with disposable underwear and a hair-net for your convenience. She also offers to dab you down with powder for an additional fee and I highly recommend this option so you never leave feeling the slightest bit sticky. She also practices the strictest hygiene measures, so you always feel safe and she only sees one person at a time – so social distancing is strictly adhered too.

Jen is always meticulous in your application and professional in the way in which she conducts her business. She mixes a tan based on your specific needs and she has express tan options that can be washed off in 2h and longer developing options that can be washed off after 8h of development. I love how Jen always knows what colour to spray me, based on the occasion I’m attending.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you will be happy to know that all of the spray tans that Glow Couture offers are completely safe. Their tans are cruelty-free, chemical-free, organic, and vegan. In fact, all of the brands that they stock are cruelty-free as well!

Glow Couture is located in Broadacres Shopping Center, inside the Mugg & Bean. So it’s quick and convenient to order a cappuccino and pick it up on your way out (along with a slice of lemon-meringue pie). Glow Couture is located close to the entrance of the center so you only have to walk a few steps to your car – as we all know we leave the tanning studio in flip flops, baggy clothing, with no bra on, so the fewer steps the better right.
