I just noticed a new beauty spot on my right hand and it got me thinking, do we look after our hands the way we are supposed to? After all, our hands are one of the first things that give away our age. This is not because our hands age faster than the rest of our bodies, it is simply because we do not take care of them as well as we should. I know for sure I neglect these babies.
We all love getting our nails done right? There are so many products to choose from gelish, gelish dip, rubber base, sculpture gel. Regardless of what you choose your manicurist is likely using a UV lamp to cure your long-lasting mani/pedi right?
Consider applying a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to your hands or feet 20 minutes before going for your next gel manicure, especially if your salon uses a UV lamp during your treatment. We recommend using Cetaphil Sun SPF 50+ Lotion as it’s hypoallergenic, water-resistant and won’t block your pores. This will prevent premature aging to the hands and feet actually, as well as prevent skin cancer. Applying sunscreen to your hands and feet before a manicure and pedicure protect your skin from the ultraviolet radiation used to seal gel nail polish to the nail.
When visiting a nail salon, make sure the nail salon you are visiting is reputable and clean. Don’t feel embarrassed to ask for your tools to be sterilised before they are used on you, if you don’t see your nail technician doing this already.
Moisturise, apply a moisturising product such as a hand and cuticle cream several times a day, to keep your hands and nails in the best condition. This will also minimise brittleness and help prevent your nails from chipping.
Make a dinner reservation, If you can, relax for the rest of the day, after your mani/pedi. If you can avoid washing dishes the same evening as your manicure, that would be best and it’s a great excuse for a romantic date night treat! Just be conscious of what you are doing with your hands, post mani. Especially if you have gone for a white, pastel or nude colour.
Will you be using these tips before your next mani/pedi?
