Nicolway shopping center finally has a quick, tasty and affordable restaurant offering – it’s the new Ribs&Burgers which opens TODAY! I’ve been to their branch at the MARC shopping center but having them in the heart of Bryanston (my hood) is super convenient. The restaurant at the MARC was great, so it’s no surprise that this chain has opened its third branch in SA, and I don’t think this will be the last.
What you can expect:
With a name like Ribs & Burgers, I think you can tell what they’re famous for, however, they do offer other tasty options too. P.S. they only use premium cuts of 100% beef, top-secret recipes, and fresh ingredients and you can taste it.
The menu comprises of saucy ribs (beef, pork baby-back ribs, pork St Louis ribs and lamb), mouth-watering rump, healthy chicken breasts, succulent lamb loin chops, light wraps and colourful salads, a selection of sides, a wide selection of gigantic burgers and then a lovely option of drinks that you won’t find at every restaurant.
All burgers can be substituted for a naked option – lettuce cup filled with rocket, tomato, onion salsa, and vinaigrette dressing and they have a free corkage option if you would like to BYOB.
What we ate:
I tried the Mighty Bacon & Cheddar Burger (R89) which consists of a 200g beef patty, bacon, aged cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, BBQ sauce, and Aunty Joan’s pink sauce, and Dyl opted for the new Greek lamb burger (R79), Slow cooked lamb shoulder, tomato, cucumber, herbs, feta, olives, tzatziki, and chili mayo.
Dyl’s burger was packed full of flavour and was tasty. My burger was huge, I could only eat half of it and had to take the other half home. We also snacked on a few treats which were bought for the table – sweet potato fries (R29 for a small), Thick-Cut Super-Crunch Chips (R27 for a small), 550g Beef Ribs (R189), 550g lamb ribs (R179) and chicken wings smothered in smoky BBQ sauce with a chilli mayo (R69).
I’m not a chili lover and found the chili mayo to be way too spicy, Dr.bae, on the other hand, loved it so much he wanted more. They use African birds-eye chili in their sauces, so if you like a sauce that brings the heat, I would recommend giving this mayo a go!
We slurped down a very-moreish salted caramel thick shake (R29 for 350ml) and then rolled out of the restaurant with the other half of my burger in toe. There’s something about Ribs & Burgers that always encourages me to over-eat. I need to start wearing a loose-fitting dress when I go through, because high-waisted jeans are working to my detriment.
I heard more than one blogger raving about their fresh home-made squeezed lemonade which is available in three variants; original, apple and mint (R29 for R350ml). So, I absolutely must go back to give the lemonade a try. I really love that they don’t give you those terrible paper straws that stop working halfway through your drink, they give you biodegradable/ guilt-free plastic straws. Ya’ll know I keep my copper straws in my Kiki Milano handbag just in case!
On a good day, Ribs & Burgers pushes out about 400 burgers a day, so with that being said we wish the Nicolway branch loads of love, success, and prosperity in their new store opening. Let’s support this new burger joint and the staff behind this simple, yet oh so tasty brand!
They’re located on the upper level of Nicolway, in between Colcaccio’s and Exclusive Books.
They’re open from 11h00 – 21h00 Sunday – Wednesday and, 11h00 – 22h00 Thursday – Saturday.
