Embrace the day of love

Valentines Day is not just for lovers. If you are single this year, look at spoiling yourself , your friends or your family. Here are a few tips on how you can embrace the day. You need to treat yourself like the queen you are.

Valentine’s day need not be a day filled with anxiety. Forget the red roses, champagne and teddy bears. It’s 2019 girl, who needs a man to buy them that clutter? Treat yourself! Cook yourself a gorgeous dinner or buy a banting pizza and some of your favourite sweet treats and spoil yourself with a dazzling little gift, spoil yourself girl. You deserve it. I treat myself to massages around this time of year as there are always great specials around this time.

Time for a little me-time

If Valentine’s Day is a solo affair this year, then it’s time to show your love for the one that means the most – yourself. Don’t let being alone hold you back. Now you’ve got the time to focus on you and celebrate the glory of being you. Get that spa treatment you’ve been talking about, curl up with that book you’ve been meaning to read, and treat yourself to a little gift or piece of jewellery to celebrate the joys of going it solo.

Guilty pleasures? Hah. You can’t feel guilty if no one is there to judge. Want to relax in your PJs and binge watch the series ‘’ÝOU’’? Go for it. Revel in the joys that you wouldn’t be able to if you were celebrating with someone else. Buy yourself a gift. Buy two. Buy three. Is there anything more enjoyable than buying jewels for yourself? You’re the queen of the day, and no one can tell you otherwise. Here are a few suggestions for celebrating you on your special day.

Shop ‘til you drop

Spending Valentine’s Day as a ‘me’ day means that you can take time to enjoy one of the finer things in life – shopping. Why not splurge on that new wardrobe that you don‘t need – but you really, really want. Buy that 31st pair of pumps, because now you have one for every day of the month. Or select a new PANDORA heart-shaped padlock bracelet in sterling silver, emblazoned with the word ‘LOVED’ – because you know you are.

When Valentine’s Day is ‘your’ day, then you can’t go wrong with the things you gift yourself. So, go for it! This is your day. Most malls are having end of season sales now, so you can pick up some steals at the moment.

A Pamper session

Nothing can make you feel like a new woman like a relaxing day at the spa. Push the emails and the workload until tomorrow, and book yourself some time to pamper yourself with mud baths, face masks and a Swedish massage. Urban Bliss and Wellness in Emmerentia is having a fab Valentines special at the moment. You can get a couples back and neck massage, pedi’s and foot massages and get a snack for R999,00 this is a special I treated us to not too long ago and I can tell you, you will not regret going to this spa.

It’s Galentine’s Day

Date or no date, use the opportunity of Valentine’s Day to gather the girls and celebrate Galentine’s Day with your best friends on 13 February.

Put on your new outfit and add some dazzle with a necklace or bracelet with our new asymmetric heart to show that love comes in all shapes and sizes – even when it’s love you share between friends.

Dyllan and I decided not to do gifts this year as we are saving for a trip to Turkey in April. So, we gave each other a R300 limit and I had to cook him a three-course dinner tonight. I made a caramelized onion and goats cheese tart starter, an angel fish, garlic and butter veg and summer salad main and gooey chocolate brownie dessert. Tomorrow night we are going out for dinner as a couple, Thursday (Valentine’s Day) Dyll is working, so I’m going out with a girl friend and then Friday, Dyll is cooking for me.

We’ve decided to treat each other all week, by making coffee for each other, running baths for each other and leaving little notes. This special day is an opportunity to show the person you love, how you feel about, and it doesn’t have to be an expensive exercise.

Even a simple gesture such as an ‘I love you’ P.S. chocolate can go a long way. So, don’t be put off by all the love, embrace it and show yourself love.
