it’s a Sher thing was recently invited to view the Volpes Spring / Summer 2018 linen trends. This was really exciting as I’m in the process of re-doing our spare room and was looking for some local inspiration. If there’s one area in your home that should reflect your personal style, I think it should be your bedroom.
I’m a big fan of Pinterest, they showcase a lot of decor trends from Europe. I’ve recently seen bedroom trends focusing strongly on a look that’s authentic and imperfect, sporting a lived-in feel that speaks endlessly of comfort and relaxation.
This look is perfect for busy business-women like myself as this trend works well with a minimalist, contemporary, casual design style – think simple décor and washed cotton bedding ranges that never need ironing but always look inviting for a nap! It’s 2018, we’ve left our baggage in 2017 and we’ve only taken the essentials forward with us. Oh and who doesn’t love a Sunday afternoon nap in the warm sun? If you ask me, it’s a Sher thing!
What else are we seeing in terms of decor trends?
1. Embelishments and textures:
As the weather is starting to warm up, we are seeing embellishments and textures taking centre stage. The handmade
feeling that brings this trend to life is reflected in linen with pin tucks, embroidery and interesting weaves on summer throws. Textures that are irresistible to touch give your bedroom a playful edge and allow you to show your personal style in a truly unique way.
2. Classic Cotton:
When it comes to Summer, nothing beats plain white classic cotton. From high-thread Egyptian cotton to super soft vintage washed cotton, this fabric is the epitome of crisp Spring freshness. The season calls for linen in optic whites, neutrals, pinks, duck eggs and of course the ever-trendy grey, all of which will work perfectly to enhance textured details like piping, embroidery, pin tucks and oxford boarders on a Summer bed. Accessories like light-weight plush throws, waffle-weave blankets, fringes on scatters and tufted carpets can transform a room.
3. Curtains:
While the bed should always be the centre of your slumber sanctuary, don’t forget the difference that an incredible set of curtains can make. They’re a brilliant way to add texture and interest to a space. You could incorporate airy sheers to bring more brightness in to a room, or linen look curtains for a more natural style. Even a subtle elegant woven design can take your room to a whole new level – any interior decorator will tell you that curtains are a must for truly finishing a rooms design.
4. Foliage and botanicals:
Foliage and botanicals are high on our list of trends this season. Be bold and incorporate anything from lush leaf prints to gentle illustrative birds and animals into your bedroom, which are stunning when paired with clean whites and neutral colour palettes. Volpes is celebrating this trend by using their huge range of scatter designs to underpin their elegant linen ranges, making linen the classic hero with a distinct nature inspired feature – is there anything more elegant?
5. Blue Hue’s:
Blue’s are on our trends radar, and this season it’s all about beating the blues by mixing darker indigo and denim shades with a base of beautiful whites and neutrals. You can find this palette in Volpes geometric prints, beachy stripes, ombres and of course classic floral prints across their duvet sets, quilts, scatters and curtains.
6. Metalics:
If you’re looking for something a little more luxe, this year it’s all about metallics. Adding a little metallic accent through lamps, side tables, door handles and mirrors can create a distinct chic edge to your space – start moving away from rose golds and coppers by sticking to the brassier end of the spectrum to be truly on trend.
7. Florals:
Spring and Summer are synonymous with florals, and while this timeless trend will forever be in style, staying in style is all about how you use them. Think pretty touches of floral rather than going overboard in your room and stick to white or pastel bases to give your space a really fresh feel. You can expect to see stylish printed linen in gentle, modern pastel shades, complete with everything from birds and foliage to bold, stylish modern prints.
8. Bright and Bold colours:
Towards the end of the season, keep your eye out for brighter and bolder colours, too. All Volpes prints are carefully selected to mix in easily with plain ranges, creating ample opportunity to switch things up when you’re in need of a change.
Rather than looking at disposable fashion, these designs are chosen to last and to give you the opportunity to create a space that really illustrates your personal style.
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to re-decorate my spare room and add a few scatter cushions and throws to my lounge area too. Comfortable linen is so important for a great nights sleep. I usually only buy new linen when it starts looking tired but after this launch I’m thinking of changing it more regularly.
I’ve opted to go with a classic white, egyptian cotton bed set for the time being. I’m still deciding what scatter cushions and throws to get. I’ll show you my new room on social media soon.
How often do you purchase new linen?
