5 things you can do in Cape Town that are fun and FREE

Cape Town

Adulting isn’t just hard, it can be pretty expensive too. Dr Bae and I recently went to Cape Town for a friends wedding and we decided to stay on for a week and make a holiday out of it. We booked our flights through Discovery vitality and were able to get a flight booster. If you meet your fitness goals for 6 weeks leading up to your flight, you get a discount. So we saved some cash there. We stayed in self-catering air b&b’s and rented a car for the week we were there.

We did a selection of paid for and free activities and I thought I would share my favourite things to do, with you.

Here’s a list of 5 fun things you can do in Cape Town that are free!

  1. Get a bottle of wine and watch the sun set on the promenade. Cape Town has some of the best sunset’s you’ll see anywhere in the world. This is sure to be a relaxing experience with the one you love.

  2. Hike lion’s head. This hike isn’t too grueling, the view from the top is beautiful and it’s a great way to meet new people. Have a picnic at the top with your friends or sip on champers with bae once you’ve made it to the top.

  3. Go to the beach. Although the water is freezing, Cape Town sports some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and the people who visit them are just as gorgeous.

  4. Visit a market. Cape Town is very trendy, which is why they attract all the hipsters. There are so many food and art markets where you can treat your senses to something out of the ordinary.

  5. Wonder around the Woodstock art district and take in all the artwork, graffiti, creativity and talent that is all so proudly South African

Here’s a list of 5 fun things you can do in Cape Town that aren’t free!

  1. Boulders beach to see the penguins. It costs R72 pp but you do get to view a colony of penguins in their natural habitat. You can also tan on the beach while penguins swim around you in the icy waters.

  2. Wine tasting. South Africa has some of the best wine in the world, and a lot of it is made in Cape Town. Visit a vineyard and treat yourself to a tasting and maybe a sneaky little cheese board too.

  3. The Silo Hotel. The Silo hotel is super artsy and cool. Their menu is quite pricy but you won’t bankrupt yourself going there for a cocktail and to admire the art, arhitecture and to get those Instagram shots.

  4. Chapmans peak. Get a bottle of wine and a cheese board from your wine tasting experience, then drive up Chapmans peak. Have a picnic with bae while enjoying the beautiful views and make some memories.

  5. Charlies bakery.  Their bakery makes little pieces of art that don’t just look exquisite, but are absolutely scrumptious too!

If you have any tips on places you like to visit or things  you like to do when you’re in Cape Town, don’t be affraid to leave some suggestions in the comments section.
