As I return from my trip to Cape Town and start winding down from the long weekend, prepping for the short week ahead, I must admit that there’s nothing quite like a good bottle of red wine to help you celebrate the end of a glorious long weekend. I recently came across a new brand of wine called Opulence from Merriment & co.
This is a premium, organic wine that can only be described as sooooo lekker! I’m not much of a wine connoisseur, just a regular working girl who knows what tastes good. I did however do a bit of research for those of you who are connoisseurs and I learned that this wine encompasses opulent flavours of dark fruit, violets and a slight hint of black pepper. Opulence wine is seductively smooth on the palate and has hints of oak and a lingering soft finish.
Opulence is an exclusive private reserve that’s bottled by a farm in the Western Cape, so yes Opulence wine is proudly South African and as we all know, local is lekker! The cape is experiencing a terrible drought at the moment, so let’s save water and drink more wine to celebrate all of life’s little luxuries.
I decided to host a date night at home with Dr.Bae to celebrate the end of the long weekend. So, we cracked open the bottle, but I must be honest, the first thing I noticed was the beautiful label on the bottle. This bottle looks premium and expensive. This is the type of bottle I would bring to a friend’s house because it looks great, the intricate swirls and gold embellishments make it eye-catching.
Once I opened the bottle I immediately noticed the scent of the beautiful nectar inside the bottle. Dark fruits and deliciousness were certainly noticeable. I made lamb chops, butternut discs and avo for dinner and I must say, the wine complimented this dish beautifully. I really enjoyed this velvety smooth wine and bae did too. They say a glass of red wine a day is good for you, I’m keen to try that theory out for the week after finding this little local treasure. Opulence is a beautiful wine to drink as it’s tasty, smooth and easy to drink.
If you’re a fan of red wine and you’re looking for a new bottle to try, I would highly recommend giving Opulence a try. Opulence wine is available at most retailers, including Tops, PnP, Makro and Goodfellas and the RSP is R90,00 a bottle.

It was previously available at Prestons, Port Elizabeth but I have not seen it on the shelves for some time now (always keep a lookout for this wine). I can honestly say this wine is absolutely locally deliciously lekker!

Is the opulence dry or sweet? Are there other sweet wines you sell?
