For those of you who have been following me on social media and have read my second blog post, October is my birthday month. I am a Libran and I am all about balance, work out a few days a week, treat yo’ self a few days a week. Listen to your body and do what feels right. Let’s all be honest though, your birthday is a very happy time of year, the attention, the calls, the presents, the cake, the SWEETS! It’s one of the few times a year that you do not need to worry about what you eat or what anybody thinks, it’s your day. It feels so good you almost want it to come more than once a year…… well I received a gift this year that has just kept on giving and I LOVE IT friends! The gift I received was a one month subscription to ‘SweetieBox’.
This cool, local company was started by two mates Josh and Mike. These local entrepreneurs have been in the e-commerce and entrepreneurship game for a couple of years now. They noticed a rise of subscription boxes globally and saw a gap in the market locally. Let’s be honest, we all love treats that come straight to our door. This company is the first of it’s kind in South Africa which just goes to prove again that local really is lekker! I love that it was developed by two local sweet lovers who wanted to share their passion for sweets with fellow South Africans. Now we can have our sweet cupboards replenished every month without even having to leave our houses, guilt free indulgence! That is how ‘SweetieBox’ was started. This company has been around since July 2016 and is becoming an increasingly popular subscription offer.
Ever month the SweetieBox team taste tests the new box of treats, by gathering a team of sweet connoisseurs who ensure each box has a balance of tastes and textures. The sweets are sourced both locally and internationally, offering a lip-smacking variety for customers and their taste buds. You pay a monthly subscription fee of R269 a month (excluding delivery), this can be monthly or once off and then you receive a box filled with delicious treats. Each months’ box has a different theme. I love, love, love it! This is such a clever idea for a gift to someone you love, regardless of their age. When my box arrived I saw a beautiful brown box with orange writing on it and could not wait to open it.
I was pleasantly greeted by a fun game to play with friends, a discount voucher of R50 off your first purchase and some information about the different treats inside. I then peeled back the orange tissue paper to reveal a box filled with…..happiness and delight. I love, love, love this idea! I’m not sure if I’ve said that yet. I enjoyed the variety of sweets they offer and they tasted really delicious too.
The zombie brains may look gross but they were great. These red and blue gummy treats were raspberry and blueberry flavoured and were really delicious, yummy treats! Note how I’m saying were…. because they’re all finished now. The tic tac toe’s were imported jellies from the USA and they came in cherry, watermelon, strawberry and fruit punch flavours. Next were the strawberry twizlzers, these were finished before I could even take the picture so that’s why the picture above looks a little off-balanced. I had lots of fun playing with the orange pumpkins, these were marshmallow flavoured candies made with real honey! You only needed 3/4 to satisfy your craving. The popcorn you see on the right hand side isn’t just regular popcorn, its caramel popcorn, drizzled with cream soda chocolate with edible green glitter! Words cannot describe it, it was so good! There was also some Ruger wafers which were made in the Austrian Alps by artisans, believe me you can taste the difference. There was a handful of orange pies which are little bite sized biscuits with an orange cream filling, they’re then coated in white chocolate and they’re the perfect snack to accompany your afternoon tea craving. Last but not least is the spree candy, this is a classic from the Willy Wonka Factory. These are juicy, crunchy pieces of sweet candy which came in cherry, orange, lemon, apple and grape flavours.
This is a great gift idea for someone you may know who is having a birthday in the near future and if not, treat yo self! I’ve signed up for another month, it’s a little gift from me, to me. I cannot wait to receive the next one! My amazing friend who got me this cool gift, also told me that the owners were super helpful and informative and kept her in the loop every step of the way. From when the hamper was sent out, when it was collected by the courier company and when it would be delivered. So, she felt very at ease having just paid for a gift online. What do you guys think of this idea? Is it something you would order for a friend? For yourself or for your kids. I would love to know ? If this is a subscription box that you would like to sign up for then use this code REFCYIMUIBC5S to get R50 off your first purchase!
P.S. this post was not paid for by the sweetie box, I just think it’s a cool idea and needed to share!
